A pair of French Louis XVI style fauteuils from around 1900, with exactly the quiet neoclassical bones Odette looks for. The carved frames carry a soft, chalky painted finish in a pale putty gray, warmed at the high points where the paint has softened with time. Every classical detail is here: slender fluted, tapered legs, carved rosettes set into the corner blocks, reeded scrolled arm supports, and a gracefully rounded padded back. As a pair they are wonderfully versatile — flanking a fireplace, pulled up to a card table, or set at either end of a long sitting room.
